Pre-School Martial Arts – Tiny Tigers Program
The DCSDKA Tiny Tigers Program is specifically designed for pre-school children (ages 3 to 5) to take with their parents. This special program was developed by our trained staff of professionals to meet your pre-school child’s unique needs, which may include: Self Discipline, Focus, Concentration, Listening Skills, Coordination and Teamwork. With the use of our proven teaching methods, your child will learn and develop skills that will carry over to other areas of their lives including Home and School.
The class is structured to motivate young children, while at the same time teaching the values of DC Self Defense Karate Association. This is accomplished through positive reinforcement and praise in the classroom. The curriculum is designed to be fun, easy and informative.
We ask that parents participate with their children if at all possible. We have found that children benefit from having parents involved and it is a great program for the whole family. We only ask for patience and positive reinforcement from the parents so that children can receive maximum results from our program.
Working with your child at home is an integral part of their training. It helps them to remember their class material and keeps their interest level high. More importantly is the way you can have a positive effect on your child. At least five to ten minutes a day of practice is recommended, plus whenever your child wants to practice! Please be enthusiastic and have lots of patience.
An Introductory trial program is 2 classes for $40, including the child and their adult. (Children ages 4-5 who qualify (are mature for their age) may also be invited to attend an additional Family Turtle Class on Mondays or Wednesdays 6-6:30pm and/or Saturdays 9-9:30am.)
Family Turtles Program
The DC Self Defense Karate Association Family Turtles Program (ages 5-7 and parents) is a place where young children grow their self confidence and can come to learn martial arts in a safe, fun and comfortable environment designed just for them. At DC Self Defense Karate Association the focus is on valuable lessons such as confidence, self-control, courtesy, respect and self-discipline. Children develop these life skills to use outside of the class at home and in school. Teachers will see a difference! Social skills, communication, and awareness are all highly valued traits in society and are a large part of children’s martial arts programs. We focus on awareness and situational safety in our Kidpower classes as well.
From Respect to Self-Discipline DC Self Defense Karate Association brings the fundamental parts of the curriculum of any martial arts program to this program designed for younger children. Students training at our Washington, DC school are taught to respect one another as well as the teachers, parents, and instructors. We mentor our team of instructors and students, and truly believe in strengthening the mind and body as a part of karate for kids within the youth in our community.
Parents accompany their children in class in Family Turtles to help the kids gain a strong focus on concentration and awareness. Instructors team up with parents to help prepare these karate kids for their school years and beyond. Teachers and parents see it as necessary in the classroom at children’s schools, at home and in social settings. Consider memorization – DC Self Defense Karate Association classes teach students to memorize the form or technique and work hard on martial arts quality. This helps children learn the memorization skills and diligence necessary to master essential school academics, as well as preparing these karate kids to be well-rounded students from early on in their academic careers.
